Handmade book / 2010

Texts from the graphic designer Bruce Mau's book and exhibition 'Massive Change' are juxtaposed with digitally rendered structures that resemble advertising billboards and assembled into a handmade book. Claiming, among other things, that "Massive Change is not about the world of design; it is about the design of the world" Mau's bold statements celebrate the potentials of design. In the remake, layers of borrowed text are overlaid so that they are only partially readable, while the arrangement of the billboard-graphics activate unexpected perspectival spaces. Through reconfiguring and 'emptying out' the referent's language and visual codes—and thus foregrounding frame over content—the book serves as critical reflection on representations of design and technology.
